Terms of Use
The ASBS Web site is a complimentary information service provided by ASBS and its members
as a convenience to users, with the express condition that users agree to be bound by
the terms and conditions of this User Agreement. ASBS reserves the right to
change the User Agreement terms and conditions at any time, and you must consult
the most recent version of this User Agreement each time that you visit our Web
site. Use of the ASBS Web site constitutes your acceptance of the terms and
conditions included below.
This is a support group which advocates the right of suicide as a personal choice made
rationally; however, ASBS is not a support group in the tradional sense. The support offered
by the group is to support the decision of that individual.
The moderators and administrators have no special training in mental health and cannot act
as counselors or therapists. Please consult with trained and licensed professionals should
you have suicidal thoughts and are uncertain if it is the correct course of action for you.
This board cannot replace trained mental health professionals and thus cannot substitute
for crisis intervention services in an emergency.
If you are experiencing an emergency, please contact local sources of help yourself
and do not rely on this forum or participants on this forum for emergency intervention as
doing so violates our belief in the right of free choice of the individual.
We all come here to give and receive support, but we are each ultimately responsible for
our own actions and by entering this site and using our services you agree that you are
responsible for yourself and your own actions
Limitation of Liability
You agree that you will hold harmless ASBS and its owners, members,
and volunteers from all claims arising out of or related to your
access or use of, or your inability to access or use, this Web site or the
information contained in this Web site or other Web sites to which it is linked.
You also agree that ASBS or the contributors of information to this Web site
shall NOT be liable to you or anyone else for any decision made or action taken
by you in reliance on information provided on the ASBS web site or for any
consequential, special or similar damages, even if advised of the possibility of
such damages.

It can be accessed in all states, as well as from other locations around
the world. Each of these locations have laws that may differ from those of
the United States of America. Therefore, by accessing this Web site both you
and ASBS agree that the statutes and laws of the United States of America,
without regard to principles of conflicts of law in the United States or elsewhere,

Use of Website Discussion Groups / IRC services
ASBS provides this website and associated discussion groups for
the benefit of its members and the public. ASBS expressly disclaims responsibility
for, and liabilities resulting from, any information or communications from and between
users of the ASBS web board or IRC network.
Users are warned they may be individually liable for anything they communicate
using the ASBS facilities, including but not limited to defamatory,
discriminatory, false or unauthorized information. Users are cautioned that they
are responsible for complying with the requirements of applicable copyright and
trademark laws and regulations.
The ASBS discussion groups are forums for individuals to share their opinions,
experiences, and thoughts related to suicide in line with our philosophy.
ASBS wants to ensure the integrity of this service and therefore, use of this
service is limited to participants who agree to adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Refrain from transmitting any message, information, data, or text that is
unlawful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, that may
be invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or bashing communications -
especially those aimed at gender, race, color, sexual orientation, national
origin, religious views, or disability.
ASBS reserves the right to remove or edit a post containing offensive material
as defined by ASBS. That stated, ASBS does not have the practical ability to
restrict conduct or communications prior to transmission and posting, nor can
ASBS ensure prompt editing or deletion of offensive posts.
ASBS reserves the right to remove or edit posts that contain explicit, obscene,
offensive, or vulgar language. Similarly, posts that contain any graphic files
will be removed immediately upon notice.
2. Refrain from posting or transmitting any unsolicited, promotional materials,
"junk mail", "spam", "chain mail", "pyramid schemes", or any other form of
solicitation. ASBS reserves the right to delete these posts immediately without
notice to the sender.
3. ASBS invites and encourages a healthy exchange of opinions. If you disagree
with a participant's post or opinion and wish to challenge it, do so with
respect. The real objective of the ASBS facilities is to promote discussion
and understanding, not to convince others that your opinion is "right". Name
calling, insults, and personal attacks are not appropriate and will not be
tolerated. ASBS will remove these posts immediately upon notice (if applicable),
and may ban the poster of such messages.
4. ASBS promotes privacy and encourages participants to keep personal
information such as address and telephone number from being posted. Similarly,
do not ask for personal information from other participants. Message board posts
that request participants submit personal information to another party will be
removed immediately upon notice unless these posts have been pre-approved by
ASBS administrators. This includes, but is not limited to, communications that ask for
telephone, address, e-mail, surveys, and research studies.
5. Participants should be aware that the opinions, beliefs, and statements
posted in this forum do not necessarily represent the opinions and beliefs of
ASBS. Participants also agree that ASBS is not to be held liable for any loss or
injury caused, in whole or in part, by sponsorship of this message board.
6. Posting off-topic messages to discussion groups will result in removal of and
the possible suspension of posting privileges.
7. ASBS members who post non-public information on public areas of the
site or off-topic messages in member-only discussion areas may have their
posting privileges suspended and will be subject to appropriate corrective
action.
Probihited communications
The following types of web board posts and IRC discussions are expressly prohibited:
1. Suicide methods. Discussion of where to find information regarding methods,
how to use methods or where to get any articles related to suicide methods.
2. Anti-suicide communications oppose the concept and the right of suicide as
a free choice. Anti-suicide communications reinforce members' alienation from
society, as such communications forcefully intrude into members' only sanctuary.
Instead of allowing the audience to get the kind of support and understanding
some of us need in order to survive another day, anti-suicide communications
corner members into defending their views.
People being told over and over again that they are wrong to decide in
favour of suicide might be so hurtful to suicidal people that it pushes
them over the edge, causing them to commit suicide sooner, as will
communications denying the validity of any person's suicidal feelings based
upon that person's not having acted upon them. Therefore these types
of communications are prohibited.
3. Communications discussing religion to support an anti-choice view of suicide or to
judge or influence another person's course of action.
This clause however does not prohibit the discussion of religion in relation to
the poster's own situation and choices.
4. Communications harrassing and demanding to know another person's reasons
for their choice, and demanding members justify their reasoning for that choice. These
types of communications only serve to irritate and annoy members, and are
prohibited. Members are free to discuss their own reasons if they
wish, however, it is distasteful for another person to demand that
an individual justify their reasons to that person or to the group.
5. Pro-suicide communications (that is urging, challenging, daring, or goading
an individual to commit suicide), soliciting for suicide "pacts" and pro-homicide
communications (that
is,
encouraging murder or murder-suicide), communications
advocating that a suicidal person commit homicide of others whilst committing suicide,
communications offering to kill a suicidal person, or requests for volunteers
for snuff videos or other death-related sexual activities: are all
forbidden.
6. Privacy violations. Privacy violations include:
posting the name of any participant or member without
the participant's explicit permission to do so if that person has
made a reasonable effort to remain anonymous, or posting the home or
workplace address, telephone number or employer / school / family
contact information of any participant in any case.
7. Posts which are intentionally repetitive of the same or identical
content;
8."Test" posts.
Conduct
You agree that you are prohibited from using this site to commit fraudulent
activities, violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation, and or make Prohibited
Communications on ASBS as defined.
Furthermore, no communications passing through this site may be defamatory,
libelous, unlawfully threatening or unlawfully harassing, obscene or contain any viruses,
Trojan horses, worms, time bombs, cancelbots or other computer programming routines
that are intended to damage, detrimentally interfere with, surreptitiously
intercept or expropriate any system, data or personal information. ASBS will
take immediate action to prevent violators of this policy from using our site.
Age Restriction
The public areas of ashbusstop.org (i.e. those areas accessible without signing in to
the site) are accessible to all users, regardless of age. However, areas that
require sign in prior to access are restricted to users 16 years of age and
older. Persons under 16 years of age are prohibited from registering for access
to, or signing in to these areas. ASBS shall not be held liable for consequences
resulting from persons under 16 years of age registering for access to or
signing in to the site.
To ensure these terms are adhered to, ANY and ALL communications via the ASBS site,
IRC server, posting forums or any subdomain WILL be monitored.
