Tying Loose Ends
This page tries to address numerous practical issues which
some ashers may find of interest.
Note that if something is mentioned here, it is not necessarily because
I am recommending it in any way, for example, I am not at all sure
that it is a good idea for one to arrange their own funeral.
The issues addressed here are less discussed on ash, therefore this page contains little original material. Most of this page contains links to other sites, usually aimed at assisting the terminally ill.
Pets
If you need to find a new home for your pet you can try sites like Animal Home, which allow you to place ads for free. You can find similar sites in entries of the Open Directory Project about rescues and shelters for animals or free pet services.Your Computer
You may want to delete ( or at least block access to ) personal or ash related information from your computer. If you use windows, here is a site which explains how to clear up your computer. Of course, depending on your level of paranoia, you could just reformat your disks/hard drive, throw them in the garbage, or destroy them (e.g. burning them) such that retrieval of data is impossible. Another option is to buy encryption software to encrypt files that you do not want others to access. The advantage is that if your suicide attempt fails, you can recover the data. You might want to stop any ash related email, so that survivors will not be able to access new incoming email. A first step is to unsubscribe from any ash related mailing lists. Next, you may want to make sure that you don't have old e-mails siting on your ISP server. You can call the tech support provided by your ISP and they will help you with that if you do not know how. To stop all correspondence, try closing your email account, or terminate your connection with the ISP.
