The Structure of This Site

The main sections of this site are the section "who we are" about the identity of ash, and the section about practical information. The latter section is rather unique in that it tries to cover a broad spectrum of practical issues and not focus on suicide methods. There is already a lot of information about methods. There are excellent books and a lot of online material. So this site tries to fill gaps in other less researched areas.

The other section is for background information. This area should contain articles of general interest to ashers. Personally, I consider practical information or information related to the identity of ash, as of greater importance. As an example for what in my opinion is a useless document, consider a large list of people who have committed suicide. Several ashers compiled such lists, and even I have done so once. Even though such information might be of general interest to ashers, I do not see much use in it. How does the fact that numerous people, ranging from porn stars to Adolf Hitler, have committed suicide, help ashers or help explain our philosophy? If a document fails to address one of these goals, I do not see much reason to spend time on it, when in the meanwhile there are many other important aspects of ash which are in need of much research and writing.

My intention is that articles in the background section go a little beyond simply providing anecdotal information, and try to actually make a statement. To say something.

As an example, consider a list of people who have committed suicide, which contains only respected people whose suicide is understandable. Two people who come to mind are Alan Turing and George Eastman Kodak. These are people of great intellect, and their suicide seems reasonable and honorable. A list of such people, going into greater detail into the lives and circumstances which brought to their suicide would be much appreciated. The fact that many people of great intellect have committed suicide, supports the argument that suicide can be rationale.

One thing that this site lacks are postings from ash, poetry, etc. Fortunately, these already exist on the main ash website.
